Setting up your Bracket league
Brackets run on tournaments: March Madness in the spring and the World Cup when it comes around.
Choose the tournament
Pick the tournament that is open for brackets. March Madness brackets cover the knockout rounds. World Cup brackets can add the group stage when it is enabled for that tournament.
Tiebreaker
Turn on the tiebreaker and players predict the total score of the championship game. The closest guess wins a tie at the top of the final standings.
Entries
Allow up to 5 entries per person so people can submit more than one bracket.
Brackets lock when the tournament starts, so give your league a few days to fill them in.
How to play Bracket
Fill in every game from the first round to the final before the first tip-off or kick-off.
Pick a winner for every matchup. The teams you advance carry forward, so one upset you called early can pay off for rounds.
Points double each round: a first-round pick is worth a fraction of a Final Four or semifinal pick, and the championship pick is worth the most. When a team you advanced is eliminated, your later picks on it are marked as losses automatically.
In a World Cup bracket with the group stage on, you also predict the finishing order of each group and which third-place teams advance, worth 2 points each.
If the tiebreaker is on, enter your total-score prediction for the final.
Then sit back. The leaderboard updates after every game, right through the final.
Playing to win
Get the champion right
Because points double every round, the final and the semifinals are worth more than the whole first round combined. Pick a champion you believe in and build the bracket backwards from there.
Upsets early, favorites late
Early-round upsets are cheap to call and cheap to miss. Late-round upsets cost you the bracket. Take your swings in the first round and go with the better team after that.
Do not skip the tiebreaker
Leagues with a lot of entries tie at the top more often than you would think. A thoughtful total-score prediction is free points.
